Support Japan

by John Nelson

While some people debate whether a country as relatively rich as Japan needs donations, I side with CharityNavigator in saying yes, and not just because I have family there. I am doing my part by selling my art: I will donate proceeds from print sales through April from my archives to relief efforts in Japan. Based on CharityNavigator’s tips for giving, which lists a number of effective nonprofits, I’m sending donations to Direct Relief International, which is working with the Japanese American Citizens League.

Other photographers and galleries (links below) are also supporting relief efforts in Japan. Please forward these links as the situation there will surely be going on for the weeks and months ahead.

All my mother’s family members are safe in Japan and will most likely (we hope) not be affected by the continuing nuclear disaster in Japan.

Hi John, so glad your family members are safe. My nephew is a teacher in southern Japan, very far south, which is a relief. What an unbelievably horrible occurrence. I plan to look into the charities you’ve mentioned. Nancy
